Patients experiencing polypharmacy and taking medications with an anticholinergic effect,
as well as others causing dry mouth, should be advised on the oral effects of their
medications, and provided with oral hygiene instructions, dietary advice,
and more intense preventive care.

Patients can be advised on the use of salivary substitutes and other therapies to relieve dry
mouth and as necessary, provided with advice and treatment indicated by other oral
conditions that may occur related to dry mouth.
